Masu has been a part of our Japanese life for 1,300 years.
Masu were used in the past as measuring instruments and tools for paying tribute, and in modern times they are often used as drinking vessels, as souvenirs for celebrations and as novelties and goods at events.
The most popular format. The most common and ideal for corporate souvenirs and kagami-kiraki.
Can be filled with a glass, used as MOKKIRI(Koboshi sake) would be a way of pouring SAKE or poured as is. It can be used in different ways depending on the occasion.
Of course, it can also be used to measure rice.
Size Outer 85 × 85 × 56 mm, interno 63.5 × 63.5 × 45 mm (1 pace)
All Masuya Masu are made from Japanese hinokiwood.(Japanese cypress)
The timber used to make the Masu is made from scraps of construction timber used when building houses. The wood is not logged to make the Masu, but is part of a cycle of reforestation by using timber that has limited use in the first place.
